NFWSC has earned a reputation as a leading provider of affordable housing dedicated to serving the special needs of farm workers, Latinos, and other working families.
NFWSC’s homes provide genuine relief to people living in substandard and overcrowded conditions, young families searching for first apartments, growing families desiring larger quarters, first-time and move-up home buyers, and seniors seeking suitable places to retire. NFWSC manages our own housing developments to ensure that they provide a high-quality living experience and essential community services, including education.
Since 1993, NFWSC’s housing portfolio has surged, from 245 multi-family rental units to:
- More than 4,300 units of new and rehabilitated units in heavily Latino and underserved communities often ignored by other builders.
- More than 300 units of affordable single-family homes, providing homeownership opportunities to families frequently excluded from traditional market rate and first-time homeownership programs.
- A variety of types of housing (single, multi-family, condominium, etc.) for different populations in need, including affordable housing for low-income seniors.
- Preservation of existing affordable housing properties by rehabilitating properties which are at risk of being bought and transformed into market-rate housing, displacing low-income residents. Preservation projects encompass about 25% of our current portfolio.
- Economic development projects, including building and managing two shopping centers in the Central Valley farm worker town of Parlier, California, which cater to large influxes of farm workers during harvest seasons and include many small minority-owned businesses.
NFWSC has worked in partnership with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, state tax credit and other assistance programs in our five-state region, and numerous banks and other corporate partners.
