Cesar Chavez Foundation communities do more than offer a positive, safe living environment. They strengthen neighborhoods and help our residents improve their quality of life and break the cycle of poverty.
Si Se Puede Learning Centers, located within the housing developments, offer structured educational services to the children that reside at our properties during the high-risk after-school hours. Each day, children attend classes and group activities that focus on building their academic skills through homework assistance, creative learning models, and access to technology. Children also participate in activities that encourage community involvement and build leadership.
The Si Se Puede Learning Centers program is a partnership with the Corporation for National and Community Service, which sponsors “Cesar E. Chavez Fellows” at 16 sites. The fellowships support AmeriCorps volunteers that live and work with residents on-site during their year of service, as well as recruit volunteer mentors from the surrounding communities. Fellows receive extensive training and develop their own leadership and professional skills preparing them for careers in service.

Senior Spirit, Mind, and Body - Cesar Chavez Foundation ’s first housing property was the nation’s first home for retired farm workers. Since then, we have managed several housing developments for very low-income seniors, offering a range of onsite services that meet their health, wellness, and social service needs. Our health aging project – called Senior Spirit, Mind, and Body – engages seniors in organizing their own events and activities – including health fairs, dances, bingo, and even an appearance on the “Tu Salud” radio show broadcast by Radio Campesina. Additionally, each senior home provides computer classes in an on-site computer center.
